"PREGNANT"

Lexie squealed. "Oh my God! We’re having a baby! I’m finally getting a baby brother or sister! Woo hoo!" She hugged her mom, who was standing there stunned. Lexie ran into her room laughing happily.

Bonnie stood there staring at the stick. "Yup. I’m having a baby." She rubbed her lower belly. "There’s a living being in there. There go those abs I worked so hard to get."

She picked up the test, again staring at it, hoping the "not" would magically appear. She walked slowly to her bedroom, sitting heavily on her bed. A baby. I have to tell Tony tonight, she thought. He would be more upset if I didn’t tell him right away. I mean, he could be totally upset if I told him tonight too. But he’d be even more pissed if I had waited a month. She remembered what he said about Lexie growing up. What if he flips out and yells at me and calls me a distraction? A baby would distract you from winning races. What if he tells me to go away again? She sniffed, fighting back tears. No Bonnie, think positive. He’s all grown up now. He loves you. He tells you every single time you talk to him. He’s not going to run away. He’s not going to leave you again. God, again with the kismet. Maybe this baby is meant to be. Who knows? All she did know is she HAD to tell Tony.

Lexie came running into her room, jumping on her bed with a pen and notebook.

"First of all, can I tell anyone about this?" Lexie asked.

"Absolutely not. I’m only five or six weeks along. So much could happen with it. And Tony doesn’t even know yet! Let me get through the first trimester and you can say something." Bonnie said.

"But that’s May! How am I going to keep a secret that long?" Lexie whined.

"If you love me, you’ll respect my decision." Bonnie said in a tone that left no room for argument.

"Fine." Lexie said with a huff.

"What’s with the notebook?" Bonnie asked.

"It’s for stuff we’re going to need!" She said excitedly.

"You can write down ideas, but no serious planning until May, got it? If something happens, I don’t want your heart broken." Bonnie said.

"OK. Do you think Tony will be happy about this?" Lexie asked.

"God, I hope so Lexie." As if on cue, her text bleeped. It was Tony.

T: Good morning! How’s my favorite girl?

B: She’s fine. Her belly’s not. Been a rough morning!

T: Poor thing! Wish you were here with me. Vegas is a blast!

B: Always wanted to go. Someday!

T: I’ll take you whenever you want!

B: You’ll probably drag me to a chapel at 3am and marry me!

T: You never know! ;o) Shit, Steve’s looking for me.

B: Chat tonight?

T: You know it! Love you! TTYL

B: Love you too!

That was how their conversations were. Short and frequent. Except for their video chats at bedtime. She loved those. It was almost like laying in bed with him. There were many nights she fell asleep talking to him. She hated being so far from him, this made it much easier.

Thankfully the day flew by quickly. They went out for a quiet celebratory dinner of pizza and coke. By then, Bonnie’s belly had settled down and she was able to eat. When they got home, Bonnie changed into her pajamas, getting ready to talk to Tony. She had heard Lexie’s phone ring, so she knew she would be going out soon.

Lexie came into her room. "Mom would it be alright if I went bowling with Emma, Jenny, Justin, Jason and Taylor?"

"Be home by midnight at the latest. Call me if you need anything." Bonnie said.

"K! Good luck tonight!"

"Thank you! Be careful!" Bonnie yelled as she ran down the stairs.

The house was quiet for the first time all day. Binky joined her on the bed, happy that he finally had him to herself. Bonnie yawned. She grabbed her laptop, turning on her camera. She called Tony. She was tired. She wanted to get some sleep.

Tony answered on the third ring. His handsome smiling face popped up on her screen. Her heart swelled when she saw him. She missed him so much.

"Hi babe!" Tony said. "You look tired."

"I am. It’s been a long day. I have a lot to tell you. Have you got a few minutes?" She asked.

"I have all night if that’s what you need. What’s wrong?" he asked concerned.

"Tony, remember how I told you how I had that awful sinus infection when you were here?" she said.

"Yeah, you said you were really sick from it. Are you OK?" he asked. Even more concerned.

"Oh, my sinuses are fine. But something else happened." She said softly, fighting tears.

"What? Why are you crying?" Tony looked like he wanted to climb through the screen.

"They put me on amoxicillin to fight the infection. It caused my birth control to stop working." She full out crying now.

Tony’s eyes got wide. "Are you saying…?"

Bonnie held the pregnancy test up to the camera for him to see. "I’m pregnant. We’re having a baby. I’m so sorry Tony, I didn’t know!" she sobbed.

Tony sat there not saying a word. She looked at him on the screen, expecting the worst. Instead, he was smiling, with tears running down his face.

"You’re having a baby? You’re having MY baby? Oh my God. Really?" He could barely speak.

"Are you happy about this? You won’t run away and leave me to do this alone?" she asked, wiping her tears. This was going better than she expected.

"What? Are you kidding? Never! I’m going to be with you every step of the way. You’re going to be sick of me by the time this baby gets here!" he laughed.

"I can’t believe we’re having a baby! I’m due November twelfth, give or take." She said, so relieved he was beside himself happy about this.

"End of the season. Now I know my off season plans! You know the first thing we’re going to do when I get there on Monday?" He said.

"What? Wait? Monday? You’re going to leave Vegas, fly here then go to Bristol?" She said, surprised.

"Yeah, why not? Bristol isn’t far from home. I’ll fly in late Sunday and leave Tuesday. No biggy. As I was saying before you interrupted me…" he said. He was grinning from ear to ear.

"I’m sorry. You’re so random. Go ahead. Continue." She replied.

"I’m taking you to the Chevy dealership and buying you whatever you want. If you’re carrying my baby, I want both of you to be safe. And I’ll get Lexie something too so she can safely drive back and forth from college. No arguments. It’s a done deal. And see if you can take a couple of vacation days. Are you going to tell Jack?" He asked.

"I have to. He’s like my dad. He’ll let me take a couple of days off I’m sure." Bonnie yawned loudly. "I’m sleepy. This kid is already kicking my ass." She laughed.

"Let me see your belly before you hang up." He said smiling.

Bonnie got up on her knees, pulling up her shirt. "See? Still flat. The baby is only the size of the period at the end of a sentence. I have a long way to go!"

"I can’t wait! I finally get to spoil someone other than my niece or nephew!" Tony got close to the camera so his face filled the screen. "I love you Bonnie. I am going to be with you throughout your pregnancy. I promise. I’m yours forever. Get some sleep. I’ll talk to you in the morning." He blew a kiss, touching his fingers to the camera lens. She did the same. She shut the computer down, rolling on to her back, relief sweeping over her.
